[WEEK 4] the TRAY

WORK OF THE WEEK - THE TRAY



Received a 600mm x 600mm sheet, shared with group. Our pair chose to do 150mm x 150mm sized tray.

With the edge of a metal wheel, marked curves intended to cut. Marked another set of lines 10mm inwards as where to fold. Trimmed with metal cutter.

































Shaped a piece of wood into same curve.

Started with four straight edges, punched lightly with small hammer. Then punched curved edges.


Carefully fixed through to achieve a consistent shape.


  








Sanded edge. Hand polish with metal polish.


End results -


Match with partner's piece.

Tutorial - How to make a metal BOWL? This tutorial takes you through the process of shaping a metal bowl - Preparation, Shaping Form, Refinement. [PREPARATION] What you need: Step 1 - Decide a size of your bowl, prepare an aluminium sheet to draw on. Remember it will shrink as you shape the form. Step 2 - This example is 250mm x 250mm. Measure diameter 25cm with ruler, draw a circle with compass. Step 3 - Trim the circle shape with a metal cutter. Step 4 - Smooth the edge with a smooth file. Step 5 - Draw vertical, horizontal, and diagonal diameters to assist measuring. Draw two circles at 1/3 and 2/3 distance, in this case each circle around 8.3cm away from the next. [WEEK 5] the BLISTER

WORK OF THE WEEK - THE BLISTER Received laser-cut templates. Smoothly removed unwanted bits. Prepared rectangular metal sheet. Sealed between MDF templates, put screw to secure. Punched with round plastic hammer to form main shape. Punched carefully with smaller hammers or wood pieces to shape edges. Cropped around blister. Sanded and flattened edge.  Hand polish with metal polish. End results - Match with partner's piece.
